The Vietnam War was fought from 1959 to April 30, 1975. The war was fought between the China-supported Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and the United States-supported Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). It concluded with the United States withdrawing under terms of the Paris Peace Accord of 1973 which preserved the division temporarily, but the North Vietnamese soon disregarded the treaty and invaded South Vietnam, which quickly fell without U.S. support, and the country was reunited in 1975. This has been described as a "total" victory on the part of the North Vietnamese.

Vietnam War in 1632[]

A majority of Grantville's older male citizens were veterans of the Vietnam War, including Frank Jackson and the newly arrived James Nichols. After the war, Frank Jackson married a Vietnamese woman named Diane and secretly smuggled a M-60 Machine gun back to Grantville. Also, school teacher Melissa Mailey had been arrested twice while protesting against the war.

Following the Ring of Fire, the Vietnam veterans became members of the New United States' army and first saw combat at the Battle of the Crapper.

Historical books on the Vietnam War were loaned to Swedes such as Lennart Torstenson, Gustavus Adolphus, and Johan Banér by John Simpson.[1]
