Susan Logsden was a daughter of Velma Hardesty. She and her sister Tina were born to their mother's most recent husband Carney Logsden, who was subsequently divorced. Susan was the youngest member of the Hardesty family.

Susan, with help from Tina, managed to invest a large sum of stock from selling her Barbie dolls and hired Helene Gundelfinger to do legal matters. Because of her mother's soliciting with multiple lovers, several of them seemed to think Susan can give them an edge with Other People's Money; however, she didn't know much about business at the time and preferred to finish school and lead a normal life.

In 1635, Susan accompanied some of the Barbies to Vienna for the wedding between Sarah Wendell and Prince Karl Ludwig von Liechtenstein. She was invited mainly at the behest of Judy the Younger (Sarah's younger sister), as Judy was worried at how much the gossips in Grantville were judging Susan because of Velma.
