Scipione Borghese (1 September 1577 – 2 October 1633) was an Italian Renaissance Cardinal, art collector and patron of the arts. A member of the Borghese family, he was the patron of the painter Caravaggio. His legacy is the establishment of the art collection at the Villa Borghese in Rome.

Scipione Borghese in 1632[]

Based on Cardinal Scipione Borghese's patronage of the arts, Giacomo Carissimi sought two hundred scudi from Borghese for an expedition to Grantville. However, Borghese refused Carissimi's appeal as the Cardinal had already heard reports about Grantville and was uneasy with the idea of financing trips to such a mysterious place, particularly a place whose soldiers had repeatedly defeated Catholic armies.
