Calhoun is a city in Georgia. Modern Calhoun incorporates a community called Oothcaloga, which was part of the Cherokee Nation, but was fully incorporated after Cherokee removal. It was made part of a community called Dawsonville, which was rennamed Calhoun after polictian John C. Calhoun.

Oothcaloga was a prominent Cherokee community in the years before the creation of the Confederacy of the Arkansas. Major Ridge resided there. In 1814, Oothcaloga was a rendezvous point for Sam Houston and his fellow travelers on their expedition to Washington.
