Jeremy Boulder was an early 19th Century doctor residing in Washington. He a large man with a great booming voice. He had studied under Benjamin Rush. After the Battle of Chippewa, Winfield Scott arranged for Boulder to care for Patrick Driscol. Driscol, who was familiar with the theories and techniques of Rush, agreed to go to Washington, but took great pains to avoid Boulder.
Boulder finally caught up to Driscol at Mrs. Young's lodging house in Baltimore. When Driscol saw Boulder had arrived, and that Boulder intended to use remedies such as blood-letting and calomel, he claimed he was on orders to help defend Washington, and fled to the capital.
