Homer Milton was a soldier of the War of 1812. He participated in the Battle of Queenston Heights, the first major battle of the war. In 1813, he commanded Fort Hull for a time during the Creek War, after General John Floyd retreated.
Prior to their arrival, Milton's men had foraged off of the resources of the Cherokee while the Cherokee were fighting the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Jackson, who'd promised the Cherokee that their property would be left alone, was outraged that his word had been violated, and proceeded to verbally demolish Milton.
