Fort Erie was the first British fort to be constructed as part of a network developed after the Seven Years' War. It is located on the southern edge of the Town of Fort Erie, Ontario, directly across the Niagara River from Buffalo, New York.

Fort Erie in Trail of Glory[]

On July 3, 1814, Fort Erie fell to the United States Army of the Niagara's First Brigade, which was commanded by Winfield Scott. Scott, an aggressive officer, considered a frontal assault. However, Sgt. Patrick Driscol correctly realized that the garrison would hold out long enough to satisfy the demands of honor and then surrender.

Erie then became the new base of operations for the U.S. army.
