Erfurt is the capital city of the state of Thuringia and is the main city nearest to the geographical centre of Germany. Best archeological evidence suggests that humans have inhabited the general area for some time.
Erfurt became a critical city in the Thirty Years' War after Grantville appeared. Erfurt was one of the first states to join the New United States in 1632. Gustavus Adolphus set up winter quarters there in 1631.
