The Choctaw (alternatively spelt as Chahta, Chactas, Chato, Tchakta, Chocktaw, and Chactaw) are a Native American people originally from the Southeastern United States (Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana). They were on of the so-called "Five Civilized Tribes" after adopting many of the customs of whites. They were the first tribe subjected to removal to the west, despite the fact that the Choctaw had been a fairly consistent ally of the U.S. from the American Revolution on. Those Choctaw who refused to leave became citizens of the U.S., the first non-whites to achieve this status.
Choctaw in Trail of GloryEdit
Despite being an ally of the United States, it was quite clear that at some point, the Choctaw would be subject to removal. In the late 1810s, the Choctaw became one of the founders of the Confederacy of the Arkansas.
